3.Maj was first built in 1892 (under another name). Utterly destroyed during WWII, it was rebuilt and became one of the largest shipyard in the Mediterranean. It has suffered greatly during the last war and the recent world-wide economic crisis. Its future seems very uncertain and this creates a lot of anxiety and emotions amongst the people I interviewed.
I first visited the shipyard in November, and was given permission to go back and record the extremely dense sounds on the various sites . I also interviewed a group of retired workers and H., one of the few woman working as a welder. I returned at the end of June to experience the launch of one of its boat.
